01 Jun Mental Health Awareness Month | Ezzree.com
As May and Mental Health Awareness Month come to a close, we reflect on the importance of emotional health and how to practice healthy self-care.
Why do we have Mental Health Awareness Month?
Since 1949, each year the month of May has been observed in the United States as Mental Health Awareness Month. The purpose of Mental Health Awareness Month is to raise awareness about the importance of mental and emotional health and to work toward ending stigmas associated with mental health.
In the United States, 44 million adults – roughly one in every five – experience a mental illness in a given year. 46% of Americans will experience a diagnosable mental health condition during their lifetime, and half of those people will develop conditions by the age of 14.

This Year’s Mental Health Theme
This May, the mental health theme of the month was #4Mind4Body. Just as we take care of our bodies, so too we need to take care of our minds. The same way we exercise, eat right, and do so much to keep our physical bodies healthy, we also need to think about ways we can work to maintain and improve our emotional health. The same way we see a doctor to check in when thing don’t feel right, also consider seeking out a professional to discuss the health of our minds. We’re all human and there’s more strength than weakness in getting the help you need to be healthy and feel good.
